The Ultimate Spring Green Smoothie: Kiwi, Banana, Ginger, Vanilla

I know it’s been a while since I’ve posted a recipe here, or anything related to food for that matter! I’ll be honest – this green smoothie was a totally random ‘what do I have to make a smoothie with’ kinda smoothie.

I’d happened to pick up a couple kiwis from the store, and lately I’ve been eating more bananas than normal. So this happened, and it turned out to be totally refreshing and perfectly spring-feeling green smoothie.

But before I dive in to the (let’s be honest, very simple) recipe, back to my first point. I haven’t been posting recipes much at all the past year. This isn’t just a food blog, but my food journey has been completely intertwined with my healing journey, so food has been a primary focus.

And let’s be real – I LOVE FOOD. Food is life. Food is healing. Food is medicine, nourishment, nostalgia, memories, connection, love. Food is a part of our culture and piece of our identity. Eating is a full-blown sensory experience. Food connects us to others, and to nature and the cycles of life. To a very real degree, food makes us who we are in both literal and figurative ways. While there is more to life than food, food is everything.

This isn’t mean to be a philosophical treatise on the place food has in our lives. But point is, I love food and pretty much everything about it. Which is why it’s been such a focal point of this non-food blog.

Obviously, I love cooking and baking and especially love finding ways to make my favorite treats a bit healthier. I don’t think eating ‘healthy’ should mean sacrificing on flavor or satisfaction. Life is too short for that. Plus, it’s actually amazing how versatile fruits, nuts, and vegetables really are!

Anyway, the reason I haven’t been as on top of the food posts lately is simply because of my kitchen. It’s small (aka tiny), the oven was on its last legs (we finally got it replaced), and it’s simply not the most inspiring place to create recipes.

Beyond that, the lighting is terrible and I have limited options for food photography… it’s a very real thing in this day and age of content overload! Readers like pretty food photography. So do I!

Lastly, I have been focusing on other layers and levels of healing this past year. So while eating well is still a central focus and top priority for me, I’ve been spending more time expanding and deepening my knowledge in these other realms.

That said, they all intertwine. You can do all the deep inner healing work you want, but if you’re not also feeding your body nutrient-rich, healing foods, you’re only going to go so far.

So I do continue to make delicious, healthy meals, it’s just that my meals have been rather simple lately! I definitely appreciate simple. I do intend to continue sharing recipes too! I might also share some of my quick go-to meals, which are so simple I don’t really consider them to be blog-worthy ‘recipes’ so maybe I’ll just do a post where I share a few at once! Think smoothies, simple salads, and veggie sautées 😉 Sometimes, simple really is best!

All that said, this green kiwi ginger banana smoothie has been the height of my culinary creativity as of late. All judgments of creativity aside, it’s really quite delish! The banana and vanilla protein powder balance out the tartness of the kiwi and the spiciness of the ginger, so it really is a beautiful balance of flavors.

It’s officially smoothie season, so get your blenders going and blend up! And… if you have any recipes you’d like to see here, drop a comment and let me know! xx
